The hustle is real, but so is a social life. Your twenties means living paycheck to paycheck isn't a concern. Actually, it's literally your only way of survival. I paid rent, utilities, health insurance, and bought my monthly Subway pass. What's that mean?
It means I'm poor as shit.
Adulthood is terrible. To ease my pain I decide to go out on a Thursday for margaritas, tacos, margaritas, an Uber black, more margaritas, and the night is just beginning. It's ALWAYS just beginning.
These nights always start off with one phrase: "Let's just go get a quick drink."
It never ends there. It literally NEVER ends there. One quick drink turns into twelve drinks and five shots. I met my friends John and Lynzie for one quick drink.
So, I don't know what Guero's puts in their margaritas, but after one I'm ready to dismantle the patriarchy. Tipsy was an understatement. This is where the one quick drink always goes left. After Guero's, we decide to pop into Chavela's - a tequila bar. You heard me. The only liquor they serve is tequila. There is a literal wall of tequila behind the bar.
A. WALL. OF. TEQUILA.
You know where this story goes. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila I find myself waking up on Lynzie's couch where I was supposed to be watching Rupaul's Drag Race. I also woke up next to a vodka on ice. In my defense, drag queens without vodka is sacrilegious. Also please note it's only 8 pm. (I'm entering my late twenties where things start to slow down.) It starts to rain, and this is where the Uber black comes in. And my credit card cause Lord knows I am poor.
I get back to my apartment, and my roommate is looking for an outfit to wear the next day. I pour myself another drink and decide it's time for a movie montage fashion show. After we pick an outfit, I'm off to go meet another friend at a bar.
I get to The Crown Inn where Thaddeus, in his kindness, ordered me three different drinks because he wasn't sure. You know how this goes. I ended up at the bodega ordering a bacon egg & cheese accompanied by fries. Who even knows what time it was, but I didn't have to be at work in the morning.
It was only one quick drink.
